Toorbos

Sudafrica, anni ‘30. Karoliena vive con la madre in un villaggio nella foresta di Knysna. Johannes, un ricco uomo d’affari, è attratto da lei e le promette un futuro lontano da quella vita di povertà. Ammaliata da quel sogno, Karoliena accetta di trasferirsi in città per essere educata a diventare una signora rispettabile. Purtroppo però ben presto si accorge di aver rinunciato alla propria libertà e si ritrova intrappolata tra la nostalgia per la sua foresta e l’amore per l’uomo che ha sposato.

South Africa, 1930s. Karoliena lives with her mother in a comunity in the Knysna’s Forest. Growing up, she attracs the attention of Johannes, a successfulm businessman who promise to take her away from her impoverished existence. Enchanted by him, she agrees to go to Knysna where she’s trained to become a respected lady. When she realises that she has exchanged her freedom for a cage, it’s too late, and she finds herself trapped between her love for the forest and the man she’s married to.

La Regista

René Van Rooyen è una regista e sceneggiatrice sudafricana, laureata in regia e sceneggiatura presso l’AFDA Film Academy di Città del Capo. Insieme al marito Corné van Rooyen, nel 2012 fonda la casa di produzione Red Letter Day Pictures con cui si dedica alla produzione di cortometraggi e serie televisive. Attualmente sta sviluppando il suo lungometraggio “Vrees”.

René Van Rooyen is a South African director and screenwriter, who graduated in Directing and Screenwriting from AFDA film academy in Cape Town. In 2012 found a production company Red Letter Day Pictures together with her husband Corné van Rooyen. She has since directed some short films and three primetime local TV drama series. She is currently in development of her feature film “Vrees”.
