Subira

Subira è una ragazza che contro la volontà di sua madre, ama andare a pescare con il padre. La passione per il mare cresce a tal punto da desiderare di imparare a nuotare, come fanno i ragazzi. Quando il padre muore, la vita libera di Subira si ribalta. Unico obiettivo della madre è di trovare per la figlia un marito benestante, e ci riesce. Il giovane Taufiq apprezza lo spirito libero di sua moglie ma Subira si sente soffocata dall’obbligo di sbrigare le faccende quotidiane. Impara presto a disertare per perseguire il suo sogno, imparare a nuotare. Quando il suocero scopre il suo segreto si scatena l’inferno.

Subira is girl who, against her mother’s wishes, loves to go fishing with her father. Her passion for the ocean grows so much that she desire to swim as the boys do. When her father dies, Subira’s free life is thrown into a tumult. Single-minded aim of her mother is to marry her daughter to a well-to-do husband. And she succeeds. The young Taufiq loves his wife’s free spirit, but Subira feels stifled by her cooking and cleaning dulie and she quickly learns to escape these chores, by pursuing her dream of learning how to swim. When her father-in-law discovers her secret, all hell breaks loose.

La Regista

Ravneet Sippy Chadha  è autrice, regista e produttrice di fiction cinema. Vive a Nairobi con il marito e due figli adolescenti. Sippy ha iniziato la sua carriera con cortometraggi pluripremiati. Kibera Kid (2007) ha vinto 8 premi tra cui l’Emmy per il miglior film per bambini. Il cortometraggio Subira (2008), che ha scritto, diretto e prodotto, ha vinto 15 premi internazionali. Da esso è tratta la sceneggiatura del lungometraggio, girato nel 2017 a Lumu, in Kenia. Subira è una co-produzione Danimarca/Kenia. Sippy sta attualmente scrivendo il suo secondo lungometraggio.

Ravneet Sippy Chadha is an author, director and producer of narrative feature films. She lives in Nairobi with her husband and two teenage children. Sippy started her career with such award winning short films. Kibera Kid (2007) won 8 awards including the Emmy for Best children’s film. Subira – the short film (2008), which she wrote, directed and produced,  won 15 international awards  Based on the highly successful short film, Subira – the feature film, was shot in 2017 on location in Lamu and Kenya. It is a Kenyan Danish collaboration  Sippy is currently writing her second feature film.
