The pioneering and daring film La Noire de… explores the complex dynamics of the immediate post-colonial period through the simple, devastating story of a Senegalese servant, Diouana, brought to Antibes by a French couple previously stationed in Dakar.
Il Regista: Sembène Ousmane nasce a Ziguinchor nel sud del Senegal nel 1923. Figlio di una famiglia di pescatori, frequenta la scuola coranica e quella coloniale, dalla quale viene espulso. Si trasferisce a Dakar dove si mantiene con vari lavoretti. È in questo periodo che si avvicina alla lettura e va al cinema ogni sera. Durante la seconda guerra mondiale viene chiamato a combattere in Francia. Nel 1946 si reca a Marsiglia dove rimane fino all’indipendenza del Senegal dalla Francia (1960). Qui inizia la sua carriera come scrittore. A 40 anni approda al Cinema, con la coscienza che fosse il mezzo più diretto, popolare e potente per educare gli africani a causa dell’alto tasso di analfabetismo. Sembène Ousmane è stato il primo regista africano ad ottenere riconoscimenti internazionali e ad essere descritto come il padre del cinema africano. Muore a Dakar il 10 giugno 2007.
Sembène Ousmane was born in Ziguinchor in southern Senegal in 1923. Son of a fishermen’s family, he attended the Koranic and colonial schools, from which he was expelled. He moves to Dakar where he supports himself with various odd jobs. It is in this period that he approaches reading and goes to the cinema every night.During the Second World War he was called to fight in France. In 1946 he went to Marseilles where he remained until the independence of Senegal from France (1960). Here begins his career as a writer. At 40 he arrives at the Cinema, with the awareness that it was the most direct, popular and powerful means of educating Africans due to the high rate of illiteracy.Sembène Ousmane was the first African director to gain international recognition and to be described as the father of African cinema. He died in Dakar on June 10, 2007.
