Felix

Il tredicenne Felix Xaba sogna di diventare un giorno un jazzista come lo fu il padre saxofonista. La madre, timorosa che il figlio faccia la fine del marito morto di alcolismo, mette al bando la musica jazz dalla loro casa, impedendo al figlio di realizzare il proprio sogno. Ma Felix continua in segreto a coltivare la sua passione riuscendo a vincere una borsa di studio. Lasciare i suoi cari per intraprendere la carriera non sarà facile. Attraverso la meravigliosa musica jazz sudafricana, la storia fa emergere in modo divertente temi complessi come il razzismo, il bullismo e i conflitti familiari, oltre a mostrare quanto sia importante nella vita inseguire i propri sogni.

The thirteen year old Felix Xaba dreams of one day becoming a jazz musician as his deceased father saxophonist. The mother, afraid that the child will go the way of her dead alcoholic husband, banning jazz music from their home, preventing the child to realize their dream. Felix, anyway, continues secretly to cultivate his passion managing to win a scholarship. Leave his loved ones to pursue a career will not be easy. Through the wonderful south african jazz, history reveals in a fun way complex issues like racism , bullying and family conflicts, as well as showing how important it is in life to chase their dreams.

Roberta Durrant è regista e produttrice per il cinema e per diverse emittenti del Sudafrica. Vincitrice di numerosi premi per serie televisive di gran successo, è stata la prima regista donna a dirigere e produrre un film nel suo Paese dopo il 1994. Nel 2012 ha ricevuto un prestigioso premio dal National Film and Video Foundation del Sud Africa per il suo contributo all’industria cinematografica e televisiva.

Roberta Durrant is producer and director for the cinema and for different stations in South Africa. Winner of numerous awards for television series of great success, was the first female director to direct and produce a film in his country after 1994. In 2012 she received a prestigious award from the National Film and Video Foundation of South Africa for her contribution to the film and television industry.
