Presentazione del libro “IN MEZZO AL MARE STORIE DI GIOVANI RIFUGIATI” di Mary Beth Leatherdale e Eleanor Shakespeare

Le cinque storie vere raccontate nel libro In mezzo al mare partono da luoghi e periodi storici diversi, dal dopoguerra ai giorni nostri, ma sono unite da un filo rosso: sono storie di fuga. I protagonisti sono tutti giovani, tutti attraversano il mare, tutti fuggono da guerre, povertà e persecuzioni.
Illustrato da Eleanor Shakespeare e scritto dall’autrice canadese Mary Beth Leatherdale, il libro ha vinto numerosi premi. È stato tradotto da Mariella Bertelli in collaborazione con i ragazzi volontari della Biblioteca IBBY di Lampedusa e 1€ di ogni copia venduta sarà devoluto alla Biblioteca stessa.

È presidentessa della sezione canadese di IBBY, organizzazione internazionale no-profit presente in 75 Paesi nel mondo, che si impegna a garantire e difendere il diritto di bambini e ragazzi ad accedere ai libri e alla lettura.

PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK “STORMY SEAS: STORIES OF YOUNG BOAT REFUGEES” by Mary Beth Leatherdale and Eleanor Shakespeare (Il Castoro Edition, 2019).
The five true stories narrated in the book “Stormy Seas” start from different places and historical periods, from the post-war period to the present, but they are joined by a red thread: they are all stories of escapes. The characters are young people who cross the sea, and escape war, poverty and persecutions. Illustrated by Eleanor Shakespeare and written by the Canadian author Mary Beth Leatherdale, the book has won numerous awards. It has been translated by Mariella Bertelli in collaboration with the volunteers of the IBBY Library in Lampedusa. 1€ of each sold copy will be donated to the Library.
The book is presented by Jessica Cugini, journalist.
MARY BETH LEATHERDALE is a writer and editor of magazines and books for children and teenagers. She is the President of the Canadian section of IBBY, an international non-profit organization present in 75 countries around the world, committed to guaranteeing and defending the right of children and young people to access books and reading.
ELEANOR SHAKESPEARE is an illustrator and graphic designer. She collaborates, among others, with the TIME, the Guardian, Variety, the Economist and the Washington Post.
