Behind Foreign Bars


Il documentario raccoglie le testimonianze di un certo numero di detenuti africani ospiti della Casa Circondariale di Montorio, Verona. Dà voce alle loro storie e ai loro sentimenti offrendo uno spaccato di umanità sofferente che unisce il rimpianto di aver perso la libertà al disagio profondo di trovarsi in un Paese lontano dalla propria cultura d’origine.

The documentary gathers the stories of some African prisoners who are housed in the Prison of Montorio, in Verona. It speaks about their experiences and feelings, and it depicts a slice of suffering humanity that feels the regret of loosing freedom and the deep sorrow of being in a country which is far away from their own culture of origin.

Il Regista
Azlarabe Âlaoui, regista, produttore, scrittore, documentarista e critico. Si laurea alla scuola di Cinema e Televisione in Canada e, attualmente, insegna all’Università di Comunicazione Visiva e Cinematografica. Ha realizzato diversi documentari, una serie di 26 film sulle grandi personalità artistiche e politiche che hanno visitato il suo Paese, il Marocco.
Nell’ambito della fiction, nel 2012, ha realizzato un cortometraggio Izorane e il suo primo lungometraggio Androman-de sang et de Charbon.

Azlarabe Âlaoui is a director, producer, writer, documentarist and critic. He graduated at the School of Film and Television in Canada, and currently teaches at the University of Film Studies and Visual Communication. He has produced several documentaries, a series of 26 films about his country, Morocco. As for fiction, in 2012 he produced the short film Izorane and his first feature film Androma-de sang et de Charbon.
