A Place For Myself

Ad una scuola elementare come tante, arriva Elikia, una bambina di cinque anni, albina. Per il colore della sua pelle, i compagni di classe le fanno capire che essere “diversa” è molto più un problema che un elemento connotativo particolare.
Mentre gli abitanti del quartiere la trattano come un fenomeno, sua madre le dà coraggio. Insieme combatteranno e alzeranno la voce per avere riconosciuto il proprio posto in seno alla comunità.

At an unidentified elementary school comes a 5-years-old albino girl, Elikia. Due to her skin color her classmates make her realize that her being “different” is more a problem than a special trait. While the neighborhood treats her as a sideshow, her mother encourages her to be herself. Together, they fight back and raise their voice to find a place for themselves.

Marie Clementine Dusabejambo è nata nel 1987 a Kigali (Rwanda), dove attualmente vive. E’ diplomata in Elettronica e Telecomunicazioni. Nel 2010 gira Lyiza, il suo primo cortometraggio, presentato in anteprima al Tribeca Film Festival e premiato alle Journées cinématographiques de Carthage e al Festival del Cinema Africano, d’Asia e America Latina di Milano. Nel 2016 A Place for Myself è stato presentato in anteprima al Zanzibar International Film Festival e ha vinto tre premi.

Marie-Clementine Dusabejambo was born in 1987in Kigali (Rwanda) where she currently lives. She is licensed in electronics and telecommunication. Lyiza (2010) is her first short movie, presented at Tribeca Film Festival and rewarded at Journées cinématographiques de Carthafe and at Festival Cinema Africano, Asia, America Latina in Milano. Her third short film, A Place for Myself (2016), has been premiered at Zanzibar International Film Festival and it won 3 Awards.
