Yomeddine

Dopo la morte della moglie, Beshay decide coraggiosamente di lasciare la comunità molto isolata dove fu abbandonato da bambino. Insieme a Obama, un piccolo orfano che ha preso con sé, intraprende un viaggio attraverso l’Egitto verso la città natale per scoprire il motivo per cui suo padre non ha mantenuto la promessa di tornare a riprenderlo. Ma Beshay non è un uomo come gli altri: è un lebbroso, ora guarito, le cui cicatrici l’hanno costretto a vivere lontano dal mondo. Bashay e Obama affronteranno il mondo tra gioie e dolori, alla ricerca di una famiglia, di un posto cui appartenere, di un po’ di umanità. Un film drammatico e avventuroso, un’opera prima che riscalda il cuore raccontando la storia di una straordinaria amicizia.

After the death of his wife, Beshay bravely decides to leave the isolated community where he was abandoned as a child. Along with Obama, the young orphan he has taken under his wing, and his beloved donkey, he embarks on a journey across Egypt to his hometown to find out why his father never kept his promise to return. But Beshay isn’t a man like other men: he is a leper, now cured, whose scars have led him to live apart from the world. Together, he and Obama will confront the world with all its sorrows and moments of grace, in his quest for a family, a place to belong, a little humanity… An adventure-filled drama and a first feature that tells the heart-warming story of a remarkable friendship.

A.B. Shawky è un regista egiziano-austriaco. I suoi cortometraggi The Colony, Things I Heard on Wednesdays e Martyr Friday sono stati proiettati nei Festival di tutto il mondo. Ha studiato Scienze Politiche e Filmmaking al Cairo e si è laureato al NYU Tisch School of the Arts Grand Film Program. Yomeddine è il suo primo lungometraggio.

A.B. Shawky is an Egyptian-Austrian filmmaker. His short films The Colony, Things I Heard on Wednesdays and Martyr Friday have screened at festivals around the world. He studied Political Science and Filmmaking in Cairo, and is a graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts Grand Film Program. Yomeddine is his first feature.
